(Eagle News) — Heavy rains on Saturday in Bulacan were finally enough to raise the water level of Angat Dam which was recorded at 158.64 meters as of  Sunday (June 30) at 6 a.m.

Because of continuous heavy rains,  Angat Dam’s water level was up by 68 centimeters, from a low of 157.96 meters 6 a.m. on Saturday, June 29.

The increase in Angat Dam’s water level on June 30 broke the continuous decline of the dam’s water since the El Nino took its toll on the dam.

It was on June 22, a Saturday, that Angat Dam’s water level went below the 160 meter critical level after its registered a low of 159.78 meters.

The June 30 level was the first time in a week of critical decline that Angat Dam’s water recovered.

Hopefully continuous heavy rains brought by the Southwest monsoon will further increase the Angat Dam’s water level, according to weather observers.

The water level in La Mesa dam likewise continued to increase further because of the occasional heavy rains in Metro Manila.

PAGASA recorded a water level of 71.5 meters at La Mesa Dam on Sunday, June 30, 6 a.m., which meant an increase of more than half a meter from Saturday’s 70.95 meters of water level.

Forecast of more heavy rains dumped by the Southwest monsoon for Sunday until the next day in Metro Manila could further increase the dam’s water level.

Angat and La Mesa dams supply most of Metro Manila’s water needs, as well as that of their surrounding areas.

The tropical depression east of Virac Catanduanes, which developed from being a low pressure area early Sunday, also increased the chances of more rains.

The eye of tropical depression named “Egay” was estimated based on all available data at 585 km East Northeast of Virac, Catanduanes (15.7 °N, 129.2 °E ) as of 10 a.m. Sunday, June 30.

It is moving west northwest at 60 kilometers per hour, and has maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 65 kph.

PAGASA said that Egay will be 360 km East Southeast of Basco, Batanes(19.6°N, 125.3°E) by Monday morning, July 1.
