Explosion hits residential area in Mississauga, Ontario

ONTARIO, Canada (Eagle News) — A huge explosion in a residential area in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada flattened a house and damaged at least 50 more houses in the area where several had been reported injured, and at least one was feared dead.

The explosion happened along Hickory Drive near Dixie Road and Rathburn Road East in Mississauga, Ontario on Tuesday, around 4 in the afternoon. One house exploded causing major damages on nearby properties.

The house was completely leveled to its foundation. Witnesses said that the explosion felt like a major earthquake. Sadly, there were multiple injuries and one person was found without vital signs.

More than 50 homes were affected in the area. Residents were advised not to return to their homes and were relocated to a community center. An investigation is still underway to determine the cause of the explosion. Search and Rescue Teams also arrived on the scene. Engineering crews checked for structural damages ob homes and properties.

Utilities in the affected “hot zone” have been cut off for safety reasons.
