Duterte wants meeting with COA, Ombudsman to find ways to simplify audit procedures

(Eagle News)—President Rodrigo Duterte wants a meeting with the Ombudsman and the Commission on Audit so they could come out with more simplified auditing procedures.

President Duterte made the comment in a speech marking the anniversary of the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission in  Malacañang on Wednesday, March 6, as he slammed the existing auditing regulations that delay government projects.

“Kasi kung ano ano nalang pinaglalagay…There are more and more regulations,” he said.

He said he wanted to “simplify matters.”

“Before the end of the year I will just suggest and if it is accepted by all fine, if not then… Gusto kong isali ‘yung Congress,” he said.

In previous speeches, Duterte slammed the COA for what he said were its strict and sometimes unreasonable policies that make it hard for government services to  reach the people.

At one point, the President joked the state auditors should be kidnapped and tortured, a comment which the Palace dismissed as “made in playful jest” and “as his usual hyperbolic style.”
