DTI closely monitoring prices of construction materials

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, April 16 (PIA) – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) continues to watch out for consumer protection.

Capiz DTI provincial Director Ermelinda Pollentes said that they are taking steps to continue to protect the buying public to have standard products.

She said that they are intensifying their efforts in the conduct of monitoring activities, focusing particularly on construction materials.

Pollentes said that since summer season started they have noted a higher demand on construction materials, and they are intensively conducting monitoring of prices and supplies as well as selling of standard products.

“We want to ensure the buying public that construction materials being sold in the market are reliable and safe for construction use and we want to deter possible proliferation of sub-standard products in the market,” Pollentes said.

She said that the public is assured of the performance and safety of construction materials if the required markings or stickers are present.

Included in the required markings or stickers which should be affixed in the products are the Philippine Standard (PS) for Philippine products or Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) certification mark for imported products.

Pollentes is likewise reminding the buying public to purchase only construction materials that bear the PS or ICC marks to ensure its quality.

“The construction materials bearing the PS or ICC marks have undergone government testing and inspection and have passed the quality standard required thereof,” she said.

She also urged the public to be vigilant and to report to their office unscrupulous business establishments that are selling construction materials without the required markings. (JCM/DTI/JBG/PIA6)
