DPWH says 17 roads closed, 2 hardly passable due to Typhoon ‘Karen’

MANILA, Oct. 18 – Some seventeen (17) road sections from the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Regions 2, and 3 were affected by Typhoon ‘Karen’ and are not passable due to washed-out detour road and bridge approach, slides, mudflow, soil collapse, fallen rocks, trees, and utility posts, and flooding.

Based on October 17, 2016 (12:00 noon) report of the Department of Public Works and Highways Bureau of Maintenance, closed road sections in CAR are: Kabugao-Pudtol Road, K0594+940 and Claveria – Calanasan Road, K0672+600, Rabaw Section in Apayao;  Kennon Road, in Baguio; Banaue-Hungduan-Benguet Bdry  Road, K0374+400, Brgy. Abatan Section and Banaue – Mayoyao – Alfonso Lista – Isabela Boundary Road, KO381+080, Poblacion Mayoyao in Ifugao; and Junction Talubin – Barlig – Natonin – Paracelis – Calaccad Road K0400+000 – KO408+040, Intermittent Sections in Mt. Province.

In Region 2, five (5) roads were closed due to flooding and slides namely: Basco-Mahatao-Ivana-Uyugan-Imnajbu  Road, KM 006+000 – KM 010+000 in Batanes; Cabagan-Sta. Maria overflow bridge, Sta. Maria, isabela in Isabela; San Pedro Bridge, KM 367+974 along NRJ-Villa Hermosa-San Pedro-Cabuaan-Disimungal Road and Victoria – Kasibo Road K0385+420 in Isabela; and Bambang Kasibu Road K0283+400 in Nueva Vizcaya.

Roads in Region 3 which were closed to traffic are the following: Dinadiawan-Madela  Road, K0295+-403-K0309+2552 and Nueva Ecija Aurora Road,  K0171+-322 to K0193+000 in Aurora; Nueva Ecija- Aurora Road. KM 161+547, Labi Bridge Brgy Labi, Bongabon, NE and Barangay Calaanann, Bongabon, Nueva Ecija, Nanduran Spillway; Tablang-Gabaldon Road K0136+-734 to K0174+270, particularly at Barangay Bateria, Gabaldon Km. 153+800 to 154+100, Barangay Calabasa, Gabaldon NE, KM 157+000; and Gabaldon-Dingalan  Road Langawan detour Bridge in Nueva Ecija.

Meanwhile, two (2) roads: Baler Casiguran Road, K0230+-615 to K0351+210 and Baler-Cemento Via Dicaloyungan, K0231+-411 to K0240+059 in Baler, Aurora are also flooded and are not passable to light vehicles.

DPWH has already mobilized maintenance teams with equipment to clear affected sections while continuously monitoring road situations.

Partial cost of damage to roads and bridges as of October 17 is already P22.7 million. (DPWH)
