DOTr warns public against “name-dropping” individuals who solicit money

(Eagle News)–The Department of Transportation has warned the public against unscrupulous individuals who use the names of the agency’s officials and former officials in corrupt activities.

The DOTr issued the statement after it received a letter from its former undersecretary Tim Orbos saying that certain individuals were using his name to solicit money from others who wish to expedite their applications in line with the government’s public utility vehicle modernization program.

Orbos is running for a House seat in the 2019 elections.

“Please be informed that the DOTr, under the leadership of Secretary Arthur Tugade, does not condone any form of corrupt practice, including the unauthorized representation of the Department or any of its attached agencies,” the DOTr said.

It warned these individuals to “desist” from the illegal activities, saying it “will not hesitate to work with proper authorities to pursue appropriate action” against them.

“The Department likewise requests the public to report to the proper authorities any suspicious individual(s) engaging in illegal acts,” the agency said.
