DOTr poses no objection to postponement of Tandang Sora flyover closure

(Eagle News) — The Department of Transportation behind the ongoing Metro Rail Transit-7 project has said it had no problems with the postponement of the closure of the Tandang Sora flyover.

In a statement, the DOTr said that while it wants the construction of the 22-kilometer rail line to “proceed as fast as possible,” it “also understands that major adjustments have to be made by residents, commuters and motorists who will be affected by said closure.”

The agency said its private partner for the project also agreed to the postponement.

“We take this postponement as a period to strengthen public awareness and cooperation for the project, as this would give individuals and agencies ample time to prepare and manage the traffic situation in the area,” the DOTr said.

It also appealed “understanding and cooperation from the public as we make all means possible to deliver projects efficiently.”

On Thursday, Feb. 21, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said the closure of the Tandang Sora flyover for the construction of the MRT-7 will take place on March 2, and not Feb. 23, instead.

MMDA general manager Jojo Garcia said this was to allow all stakeholders to prepare for the closure, which will last until 2020.

The MRT-7 is expected to connect Quezon City to San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.
