ILOILO CITY, Sept. 8 (PNA) — The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 6 in partnership with the local government unit of the City of Passi is conducting Streetfood Kulinarya Workshop on September 8-9, 2015 at the Senior Citizens Building, Passi City.

The workshop is in connection with Passi City’s Tourism Week Celebration and targets to train streetfood vendors on how to prepare food they sell in a hygienic and presentable manner by teaching them the basic food handling techniques.

Topics to be discussed include Sanitation Permits, Inventory of Dishes/Sellers Food Safety and Handling, Cooking Demonstration and Food Presentation and Food Service and Table Setting.

DOT-6 Regional Director Atty. Helen J. Catalbas said the regional office is eager to equip all tourism front-liners in Western Visayas with skills and abilities that will upgrade and harmonize the services of food service providers.

“Apart from natural and man-made attractions, food is another reason why tourists come and visit Western Visayas with its wide array of local cuisines that feature homegrown and native ingredients. Streetfoods are also popular with our tourists, thus, we need to assure our guests that the food we serve them are prepared and handled by DOT-trained streetfood vendors,” Director Catalbas said.

Director Catalbas added that this training likewise aims to teach participants on how to manage and conduct their business in order to uplift their standard of living.

“The Department of Tourism is committed to create tourism opportunities and spread these opportunities to the grass-roots level. Our purpose is to include the locals and the community in the growing industry and make them advocates of tourism in the country,” Director Catalbas said. (PNA)
