MANILA, June 13 – To make the national celebration of Independence Day more meaningful, Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz sid that the DOLE mounted 24 job fairs nationwide on Sunday, 12 June, with 119,425 job vacancies available for interested job-seekers.
“The DOLE job fairs was our contribution to make our commemoration of the nation’s 118th Independence Day more significant and relevant. The jobs we will offer in these 24 job fairs are “tickets to better lives and brighter future”, Baldoz said.
As of June 10, DOLE has consolidated 48,786 (or 40.85 percent) local jobs and 68,695 (or 57.52 percent) overseas employment opportunities. The nationwide job fairs, according to Bureau of Local Employment Director Dominique R. Tutay, was participated in by 12 government agencies that offered 1,944 government jobs.
Director Tutay, in a report to DOLE Officer-in-Charge Undersecretary Nicon F. Fameronag, said almost 97 percent of the vacancies are in the burgeoning services sector, while 2.4 percent are in the equally-growing industry sector. Only a small portion of the jobs are in agriculture.
Central Luzon (Region 3) and the Ilocos (Region 1) lead the regions with the the most number of job fairs. There were six job fairs in Central Luzon and three job fairs in Region 1.
The National Capital Region’s Job Fair was held at the Senior Citizens’ Garden, Rizal Park. For the rest of the regional job fairs. The venues were as follows: Cordillera Administrative Region at the University of Baguio Gymnasium; Region 1 at the Candon Civic Center, Candon City; Ilocos Sur Manna Mall; San Fernando City, La Union; and Nepo Mall, Dagupan City; Region 2 at Cagayan State University (Andrews Campus)-Caritan, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Region 3 at Baler Municipal Hall, Baler, Aurora; Malolos Sports and Convention Center, McArthur Highway, City of Malolos, Bulacan; Old Capitol Compound, Burgos Street, Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija (June 10); Municipal Ground, Concepcion, Tarlac (June 30); Liwasang Bayan, San Felipe, Zambales; and Rizal Triangle, Olongapo City (June 13).
Region 4-A had its job fair at the CLA Mall, Pagsanjan, Laguna; Region 5 at Ayala Malls, Legazpi City, Albay; Region 6 at Mary Mart Mall Valeria on Delgado St., Iloilo City; Region 7 at the Abellana National High School, Cebu City; Region 8 at City Plaza, Catbalogan City, Samar; Region 9 at Dapitan City Gymnasium; Region 10 at LGU-Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon and at Iligan City-MSU IIT; Region 11 at NCCC Mall of Davao, McArthur Hi-way, Matina, Davao City and at City Hall of Tagum, Brgy. Apokon, Tagum City; Region 12 at the KCC Mall of Marbel, Koronadal City; and CARAGA at the City Hall Lobby, Butuan City.
Region 4-B and Negros Island Region did not conduct any job fair on Sunday, but both have lined-up activities in commemoration of World Day Against Child Labor through the release of livelihood assistance funds, distribution of educational materials to indigent children, seminars and orientation on DOLE programs, fun run, and establishment of one-stop shop service booths.
Fameronag in his report to Secretary Baldoz, said a total of 663 employers have confirmed participation in this year’s Independence Day job fairs.
The most number of employers came from Region 3 with 174 (26.24 percent), followed by Region 11 with 86 (12.97 percent); NCR with a total of 81 (12.22 percent)
“Majority of the employers are local, 516 of them, while there are 135 employers from overseas,” Fameronag said.
The industries with the most vacancies are wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles, motorcycles and personal and household goods at 6,997 (or 9.1 percent), followed by real estate, renting, and business activities at 4,070 (5.3 percent); then transport, storage, and communications at 2,635 (3.4 percent); and other community, social and personal service activities at 2,505 (or 3.3 percent).
Meanwhile, the top 20 occupations for local employment are Call Center Agent (2,722); Technical Support Staff/Representative (2,269); Production Machine Operator (2,040); Sales Clerk (1,561); Government – Police Officer 1 (1,450); Customer Service Assistant/Representative (1,279); Production/Factory Worker (748); Sales Associate Professional (712); Cashier (606); and Service Crew (581).
Rounding off the top 20 occupations for local employment are Stock Clerk (395); Merchandiser (340; Bagger (285); Office Clerk (281); Data Encoder (234); Sales Agent (178); Bus Conductor (160); Sales Consultant (132); Technician (129); and Nurse (114).
The top rank occupations for overseas employment are Production/Factory Worker (2,800); Professional Nurse (2,137); Company Driver/Auto Mechanic/Heavy Equipment Operator (2,090); Household Service Worker (1,769); Waiter/Waitress/Restaurant Helper (1,689); Hotel Attendant (1,542); Production Machine Operator (1,500); Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Chemical Engineers (1,487); Laborer (1,438); and Electrician (1,273)
Rounding off the top 20 overseas occupations are Service Crew (1,027); Carpenter (1,000); General Cleaner (982); Nursing Attendant (780); Hotel Housekeeping Staff (519); Domestic Helper (497); Welder (418); General Services/Helper (339); Staff Nurse (300); and Cook (277). (DOLE)
