Total Delta variant cases in the country hits 2,068

(Eagle News) – The Department of Health reported 279 additional Delta variant cases bringing the total infections for this variant to 2,068.
All regions in the country are now affected by the Delta variant as the University of the Philippines-Philippine Genome Center (UP-PGC) found five Delta variant cases in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
“Of the additional 279 Delta variant cases, 245 are local cases, 21 are Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROF), and 13 cases are currently being verified if these are local or ROF cases,” according to the latest report from the DOH. It cited findings of the UP-PGC), and the University of the Philippines – National Institutes of Health (UP-NIH).
Of these 245 local cases, 51 are in Metro Manila, 37 are in CALABARZON, while 24 are in Central Luzon. These are the top three regions where the additional Delta variant cases were found.
Here is the complete breakdown of the additional Delta cases according to regions (based on indicated addresses:
17 cases – Ilocos Region;
17 cases – Cagayan Valley;
24 cases – Central Luzon;
35 cases – CALABARZON;
9 cases – MIMAROPA;
19 cases – Bicol Region;
3 cases – Western Visayas;
5 cases – Central Visayas;
14 cases – Eastern Visayas;
1 case – Zamboanga Peninsula;
22 cases in Northern Mindanao;
10 cases – Davao Region;
5 cases – BARMM;
13 cases – Cordillera Administrative Region;
51 cases – National Capital Region
“Based on the case line list, two cases are still active, eight cases have died, 267 cases have been tagged as recovered, while the outcome of two cases are being verified. All other details are being validated by the regional and local health offices,” the DOH said.
The total Delta variant cases are now 2,068, it added.

The UP-PGC also detected 29 Alpha (B.1.1.7) variant cases, 28 Beta (B.1.351) variant cases, and 13 P.3 variant cases in the latest batch of whole genome sequencing.
A total of 367 samples submitted by 60 laboratories, collecting institutions, and different Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Units (RESU) were sequenced by the PGC and the UP-NIH.
The additional 29 Alpha variant cases were all local cases. Based on the case list, one case is still active, one has died, while 27 cases have been tagged as recovered. The total Alpha variant cases are now 2,424, according to the DOH.
The additional 28 Beta variant cases were also local cases, and have been tagged as recovered. The total Beta variant cases are now 2,697.
The DOH said that the 13 additional P.3 variant cases were also local cases. One case has already died while 12 cases have been tagged as recovered.
