‘Doctor Strange’ takes top spot at the box office

dr-strangeMarvel’s latest big screen offering, “Doctor Strange” made movie magic at the box office this week, taking the number one spot at the U.S. box office Sunday (November 6).

The comic book movie, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch in the titular role, took in close to $85 million according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.

20th Century Fox’s “Trolls,” which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in May this year, finally hit multiplexes, coming in second with total earnings of $45.6 million. The Dreamworks Animation production boasts a voice cast that includes Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake.

Coming in third place this week is Mel Gibson’s fifth directorial outing, “Hacksaw Ridge”. The World War II drama, which stars Andrew Garfield and Vince Vaughn brought in a total of $14.7 million in its opening week.

Sony Pictures’ “Boo! A Madea Halloween” took the fourth spot at the box office, bringing in $7.8 million this week. Ron Howard’s “Inferno” rounded out the top five, adding another $7.5 million to its box office tally.
