DFA brings home 77 OFWs from Libya

MANILA, PIA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported the repatriation of seventy-seven (77) overseas Filipino workers from the strife-torn country of Libya.

DFA in a statement said the OFWs left Libya on chartered vehicles and were brought to the Tunisian border from where they took commercial flights back to Manila, where they arrived in separate batches on February 27 and March 01.

Representatives from the DFA, the Office of the Vice President, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration received the returning workers upon their arrival in Manila. They were subsequently briefed on the government’s reintegration program and other benefits available to them.

The DFA estimates that there remain approximately 4,000 Filipinos in Libya despite the call by the Philippine Government for their mandatory evacuation as a result of the deteriorating security situation in that country. (DFA)
