DepEd formalizes moratorium on field trips

(Eagle News)The Department of Education (DepEd)  has issued a memorandum that formalizes the moratorium on field trips and other similar activities, following the tragic bus accident involving college students in Tanay, Rizal.

Memorandum No. 47, series 2017 will be observed by all public elementary and secondary schools until the review and revision of related policies have been finalized.

“As the primary institution mandated to ensure access to quality basic education, it is imperative for the Department to look after the security and safety of learners in its education-related activities,” Education Secretary Leonor Briones said.

The DepEd said all private schools are also encouraged to abide by the memorandum, if necessary.

Schools, however, whose permits and finalized contracts for the conduct of educational field trips prior to the moratorium have been approved, may still proceed with the activity.

The DepEd said, however, that guidelines, especially on safety and security measures, should be strictly observed.
