(Eagle News) – Dengue has claimed more lives as the death toll in the Calabarzon region reached 88, and the nationwide death toll is now at least 720.

The Department of Health said that the continuing rise in dengue cases in the country is very alarming. Calabarzon now has almost 27,000 dengue cases from January to August 15 this year.

Dr. Eduardo Janairo, director of DOH Calabarzon said that the hike in the dengue cases in the region made them extra vigilant to prevent more dengue deaths.

“Tumaas pa kaya 90 plus na increase from the same time last year.

The towns and cities in Calabarzon with the highest number of dengue cases are the following:
Dasmarinas- 2,121 cases; Lipa 1,147 cases; Calamba 1,095 cases; Batangas City 777 cases; and Antipolo City 762 cases.

-No to Dengvaxia-

Dr. Janairo also disagreed with calls to use the Dengvaxia vaccine saying that there is no test yet that would determine if a person has been infected by dengue virus.

Hindi mo alam so malaking kalokohan yun. (Now this Dengvaxia, before this can be given to you, you should have been have been bitten by a mosquito with the virus. But you cannot see this. You do not know this, so this is a lot of crap. They will say zero positive or zero negative, but there is still no examination that would determine if you are zero positive or zero negative, so we are just being taken for a ride)” he explained.
