Yalta International Economic Forum boasts Simferopol airport in Crimea

Nations and governments all over the world are building infrastructures that define their progress and further signify their ability to attract more investments.

Just in time for the 4th Yalta International Economic Forum, one of the most important investment conferences in Russia, the Republic of Crimea opened the brand new terminal complex of the international airport of Simferopol last April 16.

Simferopol Airport is Crimea’s biggest investment project with private financing worth 32 billion RUB signed in April 2016 on the sidelines of the 2nd Yalta International Economic Forum.

The new airport terminal was designed by one of the world’s leading architectural companies Samoo Architects & Engineers from South Korea.

The design of the airport terminal resembles a wave that was inspired by the nature of the Crimean peninsula.

More than 5.7 thousand tons of metal structures were used and 136 unique curved columns up to 35 m high were erected in a construction that lasted only for only 22 months.

The new terminal is built on the principles of public and private partnerships, 30% of funds were at the expense of investors, the remaining 70% was loaned from operating banks in the Crimea.

The new airport terminal in Simferopol addresses the huge increase in passenger traffic after the reunification of Crimea with the Russian Federation.

In what used to be a poppy field now stands a remarkable airport terminal that can accommodate 6.5 up to 10 million people.

Today, it can accommodate 3650 passengers an hour with its 55 check-in counters. It features a cutting-edge baggage handling system fully designed and built in Russia, the first of its kind since 1991.
