(Eagle News)–A Manila regional trial court has convicted an Army reservist of the murder of a cyclist in a road rage incident in Manila in 2016.
Manila Branch 14 Judge Buenaventura Albert J. Tenorio Jr. found Vhon Martin Tanto guilty beyond reasonable doubt of shooting and killing road rage victim Mark Vincent Garalde after an altercation between them, Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete said.
Tanto shot Garalde twice after a fistfight ensued when Tanto’s car was blocked by Garalde’s bicycle on P. Casal St.
According to Perete, the court meted out on Tanto the penalty of reclusion perpetua, and ordered him to indemnify the heirs of Garalde P1,048,109.63 in actual damages and P100,000.00 each as indemnity in delicto, moral and exemplary damages.
“The prosecution presented ten (10) witnesses, as well as the Closed Circuit Television footage of Brgy. 385 Quiapo where the incident transpired,” Perete said.
