COMELEC directs field offices to strictly follow registration hours, conduct widespread info dissemination

MANILA – The Commission on Elections directs all Offices of the Election Officers (OEO) to strictly follow the mandated registration hours, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, for the ongoing voter registration period which started last November 7, 2016.

The OEOs are further required to conduct widespread information dissemination down to the barangay level for the early registration of qualified registrants without waiting for the last day of registration.

“In exceptional situations wherein there is a large volume of applicants, the OEOs may devise mechanisms to speed up the system of processing applications in order to minimize queuing and avoid inconvenience,” Election and Barangay Affairs Department Director Teopisto Elnas, Jr. said.

In accordance with the provision of Republic Act 8189 which states that the filing of applications shall be conducted during office hours at the OEOs, it is incumbent and mandatory upon the Field Offices to observe strictly the policy on receiving applications for registration, transfer, transfer with reactivation, reactivation, change/correction of entries and inclusion/reinstatement of records in the list of voters from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, from November 7, 2016 until April 29, 2017 except December 24, 25 and 31, 2016 and April 13 and 14, 2017.
