“Now it’s almost near the closing of voting here in the Philippines and around the world, and the National Board of Canvassers wil now open its consolidation and canvassing system or CCA to receive transmission of election results,” Pangarungan said in his opening statement.

As the Comelec is still awaiting the electronic transmission of election results, the canvas was suspended to resume at 1 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, May 10.

Pangarungan also outlined the enhanced measures laid down by the Comelec to ensure the safety and integrity of this year’s elections.

These include improved voter receipts which reflect the precinct number enhancing the transparency of the elections, as well as the creation of the vulnerable sectors’ office to attend to persons with disabilities, senior citizens, pregnant women, indigenous people, and persons deprived of liberty.

The Comelec Chair noted that this “makes our elections more inclusive that all may exercise the right to vote.”
