Stop and Go coalition threatens to stage another strike

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — The Stop and Go Coalition of transport groups threatened to conduct another transport strike aiming to paralyze 80% of the public transport in Metro Manila. Stop and Go President Jun Magno defended the actions of the coalition, saying that the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) did not heed the coalition’s arguments during the dialogue held between transport groups and the LTFRB.

LTFRB-approved P8 mininum jeepney fare to take effect on February 8

  (Eagle News) – The minimum fare for jeepneys will now be P8, starting Wednesday, February 8. This was after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced the approval of the one-peso provisional jeepney fare increase. QC orders fire safety inspections of commercial establishments

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (Eagle News) — Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista ordered City Fire Marshal Sr. Supt. Jesus Fernandez to conduct fire safety inspections of commercial establishments in the city, specially their compliance to the fire code. This is in response to the successive fire incidents all over the country, particularly the fire incident that occurred in the Cavite Export Processing Zone.

MMDA plans to extend “no window hours”

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority plans to extend the “no window hour” policy of the number-coding scheme up to June 2017. According to MMDA Director Tim Orbos, the policy was successful in lessening the traffic problem in Metro Manila since it was implemented. The “no window hour” policy was implemented in November 2016.  

VAT exemptions of senior citizens and PWDs will remain – Sen. Angara

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — Senate Committee on Ways and Means Chairman Senator Sonny Angara said that the Department of Finance will no longer remove the exemptions of senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) from value-added tax despite the comprehensive tax reform program of the Duterte administration. The aim of the comprehensive tax reform is to reduce the income tax rate while increasing the excise tax on oil products.
