House approves proposed BBL on third and final reading

Guevarra gets CA nod as justice secretary

(Eagle News)–The Commission on Appointments on Wednesday, May 30, confirmed the appointment of Menardo Guevarra as Justice Secretary. Guevarra’s confirmation came a day after Bernadette Romulo-Puyat was confirmed as Tourism Secretary. Guevarra was deputy executive director before he was appointed to head the justice department, whose then-secretary, Vitaliano Aguirre III, resigned following public indignation over a DOJ panel of prosecutors dismissal of drug charges filed against self-confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa and others.  

Puyat: P60-million payment for ad placement in Tulfo-produced program has not been returned

Senate ratifies national ID system

(Eagle News)–The Senate on Tuesday, May 29, ratified the bicameral conference committee report on the Philippine Identification System Act that seeks to establish a national ID system. Only Senator Risa Hontiveros registered a no-vote on the report. The ratification came a day before Congress was slated to adjourn sine die.
