After just one day without her beloved daughter Carrie Fisher, America’s sweetheart Debbie Reynolds passed away from a stroke at the age of 84. She was brought to the Cedar Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Wednesday, December 28th.
“The last thing she said this morning was that she was very, very sad about losing Carrie and that she would like to be with her again,” her son, Todd Fisher, shared to the public that day. “Fifteen minutes later she suffered a severe stroke.”
Both being young cinematic icons for their own generations, the legendary mother-daughter duo shocked fans and celebrities of all ages for their death being shared one day after another.
The daughter who was well known for playing the role of Princess Leia in the Star Wars film series, had a cardiac arrest incident on a flight days prior to her death. Todd Fisher said that the tragic events may have just been too much for his mother to handle.
“The only thing we’re taking solace in is that what she wanted to do was take care of her daughter, which is what she did best,” he said.
Reynolds unconditionally loved her daughter as she always strived to be there for her no matter what. Fisher had gone through events in her life where she had gone to rehab for drug abuse and also became mentally ill. At one point in time, the mother and daughter did not even speak to each other for about 10 years, since Fisher wanted to remove her identity as Debbie Reynolds’ daughter.
Fortunately, the mother and daughter lived their remaining years happy together. “It took 30 years for Carrie to be happy with me,” Reynolds told People. “It’s the end of the golden era for me, I’m delighted I lived when I lived—and I’m still here. I’ve had a wonderful life.”
Todd Fisher and Carrie’s daughter, Billie Lourd, continue to stay strong for their significant losses.
