‘Carina’ evacuees start returning home

QUEZON CITY, Aug. 3 – As severe Tropical Storm ‘Carina’ finally exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to assist affected families in Regions I and II.

According to the report of the Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) of DSWD, as of 2PM of August 1, two families or 10 persons remain in an evacuation center in Region I. In Region II, all the displaced families are now back to their houses.

The Field Office will conduct a Rapid Assessment Needs Analysis (RDANA) in affected municipalities in Cagayan Province. Meanwhile, PAGASA continues to alert fisherfolk against rough seas over the seaboards of Northern Luzon, the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon and the western and southern seaboards of Southern Luzon.

PAGASA also warns citizens in MIMAROPA, Northern Luzon, and the provinces of Zambales and Bataan to be alert for possible flash floods and landslides caused by the Southwest Monsoon rains.

DSWD Secretary Judy Taguiwalo has asked concerend DSWD-Field Offices to continue to coordinate with concerned local government units for augmentation support and additional assistance that the families may need as they head home and start anew. (DSWD)
