BIFF splinter group leader arrested

The founder and chair of the Justice Islamic Movement (JIM), the splinter group from the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) is now in custody.

JIM leader Mohammad Ali Tambako was arrested on Sunday night while in transit in a tricycle en route to Barangay Kalumpang, General Santos City.

Tambako, the former Vice Chairperson for Military Affairs of the BIFF, was detained due to the arrest warrant from the Cotabato Regional Trial Court Branch 15 for charges of murder and double frustrated murder.

The combined forces of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), the military and the Philippine National Police (PNP) have also arrested five other members of Tambako’s group and were able to recover three grenades and two short firearms.

It is said that the JIM had helped the group of Basit Usman, the fugitives who have escaped capture during the Oplan Exodus in Mamasapano, Maguindanao last January 25.
