ROVANIEMI, Finland (Reuters) — An aurora hunter managed to capture a light-show over northern Finland Monday (August 29) night.
Wanting to see the northern lights as clearly as possible, he drove out in the countryside, some 30 kilometers from the Arctic Circle, away from the city’s lights.
The northern lights are the result of collisions between the Earth’s gaseous particles and matter released by the Sun’s atmosphere.
The collisions can jar the magnetosphere around the Earth’s north and south poles, releasing colorful streams into the sky.
