‘Batman v Superman’ sets new records at the box office

REUTERS — Despite critics’ less than stellar reviews, “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” set new records at the box office over the Easter weekend, with earnings totaling $170.1 million, making it the best March launch of all time.

The Warner Bros. release brought in more than $137 million from 65 foreign markets, while also placing sixth as the biggest domestic opening weekend of all-time.

Universal’s “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2” pulled in the female crowds and came in third place at the box office. The romantic comedy sequel, featuring the original cast of Nia Vardalos and John Corbett, brought in a solid $18.1 million.

Lionsgate’s “The Divergent Series: Allegiant” dropped a whopping 67 percent in its second weekend, earning only $9.5 million for a disappointing total of $46.6 million, tying for fourth place with Sony’s “Miracles from Heaven”.

The faith-based drama also earned $9.5 million, for a domestic total of $34.1 million after two weeks.
