Bangko Sentral circulates the 1-Piso ASEAN commemorative coin

MANILA, March 22 — On 1 March 2017, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) circulated to the public the 1-piso ASEAN 2017 commemorative coins. The coin was officially unveiled by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and BSP Governor Amando M. Tetangco, Jr. during the launch of the Philippines’ ASEAN 2017 Chairmanship on 15 January 2017 in Davao City.

The issuance of the ASEAN commemorative coin aims to promote greater public awareness and interest on the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairmanship in 2017 and ASEAN cooperation in general. The ASEAN commemorative coin is a legal tender and has the following features:

On the obverse:

• Elements of ASEAN 50 Philippines 2017 logo
• The markings:

  • Theme, “Partnering for Change, Engaging the World”
  • 10 Stars representing ASEAN Member States
  • Names of ASEAN Member States in micro-text
  • Sun and Dove of Peace
  • BSP Mint Mark in Baybayin

On the reverse:

  • Jose Rizal monument
  • The markings:
  • BSP Seal
  • “ASEAN 2017”
  • “REPUBLIKA NG PILIPINAS”
  • Denomination 1-Piso
  • List of ASEAN member States
