ASEAN Integration and the PHL Council on foreign relations

With ASEAN Integration and the establishment of the ASEAN community, it is important for the Philippines to prepare its blueprint to be more competitive in this regional undertaking.

Globalization has put the pressure on ASEAN and on each ASEAN member countries.

In this episode of ASEAN In Focus, Dr. Caloy Tabunda, ASEAN In Focus resident resource person, interviews Ambassador Jose Romero Jr. Ambassador Romero is currently the president of the Philippine Council on Foreign Relations.

He was formerly the chairman of the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and concurrently, undersecretary of the Department of Agriculture during the administration of President Corazon Aquino.

He assumed the position of executive director of the Amsterdam-based Common Fund for Commodities which was set up by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). He also served as the Philippine ambassador to the Republic of Italy. He was concurrently permanent representative to the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

After his stint with the Foreign Office, he joined the board of the United Coconut Planters Bank (UCPB) and its subsidiaries like the Coconut Industry Investment Fund (CIIF) and the Coco Chemical Corporation. He is also active in social projects.
