(Reuters) — Argentine police have seized at least five tons of cocaine in the city of Berazategui, located in the Buenos Aires province, local media reported on Wednesday (June 28).

The drugs were found in an abandoned semi-trailer truck with a thermal box, within a hidden compartment.

Police seized more than 7,000 packages from the truck which are still being counted, local media reported.

This means that the amount of the drugs confiscated could increase.

Police suspect three Argentineans and one Paraguayan were behind the drug cargo and are working with the AFI (Federal Intelligence Agency) to locate them.

Argentina has mostly avoided the drug violence seen in Colombia and Mexico, but it is now the fifth largest trafficking point of cocaine en route to Europe and Asia, according to the United Nations.
