And the nominees are! Academy Awards release full list.

QUEZON City, Philippines (February 6) – The #OscarsSoWhite trend might be replaced into #OscarsSoWhiteNomore for the 89th Academy Awards might be the most diverse one after a controversial snub of some of the critically-acclaimed black actors last year. With Denzel Washington, Octavia Spencer, Mahershala Ali, Viola Davis, Naomie Harris, Dev Patel and Ruth Negga on the list of nominees,  this will definitely be a show to watch for.

Aside from the diversity of nominees, it is also salient that most films that received a nod this year were not commercial hits. The well-received romantic comedy La La Land dominated the nominations with 14, including Best Picture, Actor and Actress as well as Directing. That ties the record shared only with All About Eve and Titanic.

Moonlight and Arrival each came away with eight nominations while 13TH by Ava Du Vernay and O.J.: Made in America are documented for Best Documentary Feature which tackles the arguments about race in the United States. Mel Gibson is also nominated as Best Director for Hacksaw Ridge, a war drama that earned six nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Andrew Garfield.
