Amid rising tension between India, Pakistan, DFA issues advisory to Filipinos

(Eagle News)—The Department of Foreign Affairs warned Filipinos in India and Pakistan to take the necessary precautions amid the rising tension between the two countries.

In a statement, the DFA also urged Filipinos to avoid any travel to Kashmir region, where a confrontation between Indian and Pakistani jets ensued.

There are no Filipinos living in Kashmir but there are seven Filipino military observers serving with the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan, the DFA said.

“All seven are safe along with the approximately 1,780 members of the Filipino community in Pakistan and 1,167 others in India,” the DFA said.

According to the DFA, those  in Pakistan who may find themselves in emergency situations may call the Philippine Embassy in Islamabad at +92 333 524 4762 .

Filipinos in India, on the other hand, may call the Philippine Embassy in New Delhi at (+91) 99 1079 7014.

“The DFA has expressed hope that India and Pakistan will exercise restraint even as it closely monitors the situation in Kashmir in the wake of rising tensions between the two countries,” the department said.
