All set for the enforcement of the Jay Walking Ordinance on December 1

(PIA) — Traffic enforcers will implemented the Jay Walking Ordinance on four main sections of the city namely, Matina-Crossing, San Pedro Extension-Quimpo Boulevard, JP Laurel Avenue fronting G-Mall and Victoria Plaza to Abreeza to SPMC, Ma-a Crossing to Corner Sandawa Road on December 1. Rhodelio Poliquit, chief of the City Traffic and Transport Management Office said they will strictly impose the policy as part of the Comprehensive Traffic Code of the city.

He said imposing the Jay Walking Ordinance is one of the policies set to ease the traffic in the city. “We can ensure the safety of pedestrians, ease the flow of traffic and eventually use the multi-million infrastructure of overpasses in the city,” Poliquit said.

He said even for those crossing the pedestrian lane with the green light in effect for public conveyance to proceed will be apprehended. Poliquit also assured that all overpasses or foot bridges have been cleared from vendors. He said both the police and personnel of the CTTMO will enforce the Jay Walking Ordinance.

However, Poliquit clarified that there will be exemption to the rule in imposing the Jay Walking Ordinance like pregnant women, persons with disabilities and senior citizens. He said these people can cross the streets but with accompanied by the traffic enforcer.

“We will give the traffic enforcers the right judgement of who to give consideration,” Poliquit said.

He said jay walking violators will be issued citation ticket with a penalty at P100 or the choice to render community service. Poliquit said drivers who violate the provision of pedestrian lane will be penalized at P200 penalty.

“15 personnel will be deployed for the Jay Walking Ordinance enforcement, out of the out of 437 enforcers.  Even those assigned at intersections will enforce the policy,” he said.  (PIA 11-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines) –
