(Eagle News) – Another million doses of Sinovac vaccines from China arrived in the country on Sunday morning, June 6, bringing the country’s total of vaccine doses so far delivered at around 9.3 million.

This is the first shipment of vaccines delivered for the month of June. This also brings to 6.5 million the total Sinovac doses that have been delivered in the country, comprising the bulk of the vaccines in the Philippine vaccine rollout.

The additional 1 million Sinovac doses arrived at 7:22 a.m. at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City.

The vaccines under the brand name Coronavac were delivered via Cebu Pacific flight 5J671. These were welcomed by Health Secretary Francisco Duque III and vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr, who is also the National Task Force (NTF) against Covid-19 chief implementer.

Galvez said that this latest delivery of Sinovac doses would go mainly to areas in Mindanao and Visayas which have high COVID-19 cases, following the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte.

“The President would also like other areas especially those with high cases to be given the vaccines, like Zamboanga, Cagayan de Oro, Butuan and other areas like Region 6 (Western Visayas),” Galvez said in a press briefing.

After this, on Monday, June 7, around 1.3 million Pfizer doses from the COVAX facility would be arriving, to be followed by another 900,000 Pfizer doses on June 11, based on the previously announced schedule of vaccine deliveries.

On June 21, the first delivery of Moderna doses at 200,000 doses is expected.

Galvez said the Philippine government targets to administer some four to five vaccines this month.

“Our target for this month is to have 4 to 5 million vaccinations,” he said.

The vaccine czar said that so far, close to 6 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered in the country.
