PHL COVID-19 cases reach 30,682 as increasing number of fresh cases are recorded

(Eagle News) — The number of COVID-19 cases in the country reached 30,682 with more than 400 fresh cases added each day in the last few days, latest data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed.

Virus recoveries also surpassed 8,000 with the addition of 250 new recoveries on Monday, June 22, which was more than the previous day’s 243 recoveries.  As of 4 p.m., the number of COVID-19 recoveries reached 8,143.

The DOH said that 630 confirmed COVID-19 cases were added on Monday, consisting of 467 fresh cases and 163 late cases.   Metro Manila reported 149 fresh cases and 25 late cases, while Central Visayas had 164 fresh cases and 93 late cases.

On Sunday, June 21, there were also more than 415 fresh cases added to the list.

On June 10, the DOH reported that 452 fresh cases were added to their list.  On June 18, the fresh cases added were even more at 481. On June 19, fresh cases added were 460.  On June 20, the number of fresh cases was even higher at 578.

In contrast, daily COVID-19 cases in May were averaging at 220 cases.

At the start of June, COVID-19 cases were even lower at more than 100 cases.  On June 1, the added confirmed COVID-19 cases were  119.  On June 2, the confirmed fresh COVID-19 cases were 176.

The country started relaxing community protocols on June 1.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire reminded the public that it is important to always observe the minimum health protocols such as proper handwashing, wearing of face masks, and physical distancing as the danger of COVID-19 infections is still there, with no vaccine developed against the virus yet.

The fatalities added today were eight, which is fewer than Sunday’s (June 21) 19 fatalities.  But the DOH said that 15 of these 19 fatalities occurred between June 3 to 16.

As of Monday, June 22, the total COVID-19 fatalities reached 1,177.
