Tropical Depression “Egay” east of Virac maintains strength as it moves northwest; monsoon rains to prevail

(Eagle News) – The low pressure area east of Virac, Catanduanes, which developed into a Tropical Depression early this morning, has maintained its strength while moving generally northwestward, PAGASA’s latest advisory said.

The eye of tropical depression named “Egay” was estimated based on all available data at 585 km East Northeast of Virac, Catanduanes (15.7 °N, 129.2 °E ) as of 10 a.m. Sunday, June 30.

It is moving west northwest at 20 kilometers per hour, and has maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 65 kph.

PAGASA said that Egay will be 360 km East Southeast of Basco, Batanes(19.6°N, 125.3°E) by Monday morning, July 1.

Meanwhile, due to Southwest Monsoon, light to moderate with at times heavy monsoon rains may prevail over Metro Manila, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Antique, and Aklan today, Sunday.

Cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms is also expected over the rest of Luzon and Visayas.

On Monday, July 1, monsoon rains monsoon rains may likewise prevail over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Antique and Aklan. while cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms is expected over the rest of Luzon and Visayas.
