Head of Japan’s House of Councillors pays courtesy call on President Duterte

(Eagle News) — President Duterte received the President of Japan’s House of Councillors, Hon. Chuichi Date in a courtesy call at the President’s Hall in Malacañang Palace on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, where they discussed issues of mutual interests in a closed door meeting.

Hon. Chuichi Date came together with his spouse Yuko. They were accompanied by Japanese Ambassador Koji Haneda, Deputy Chief of Mission Takehiro Kano, Japan Embassy Secretary Yojiro Konno, Japan Embassy Secretary Akemi Koyano, and Assistant Director Shun Makishi. Joining Honorable President Date were other Japan House of Councillors Members Mr. Masayoshi Nataniya, Mr. Yoshiki Yamashita, and Mr. Mitsuo Gima.

The House of Councillors is the upper house of the National Diet or the bicameral national legislature of Japan.

Representing the Philippine Government for the closed-door meeting were Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr., Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, National Economic and Development Authority Director-General Ernesto Pernia, DFA-ASPAC Assistant Secretary Meynardo Montealegre, DFA-ASPAC Executive Director Josel F. Ignacio, and Senate of the Philippines Director for Protocol Cesar De Chavez.

The leaders met together with their respective delegates discussed issues of mutual interests relating to bilateral relations of the Republic of the Philippines and the Japanese government.
