Knee pain sidelines Celtics’ Horford

WASHINGTON, United States (AFP) — Boston Celtics center Al Horford will miss “at least a few games” with a left knee injury, coach Brad Stevens said Wednesday.

Stevens, speaking at the Celtics’ shootaround before their Wednesday night NBA clash with the Wizards in Washington, said Boston hopes the time off will allow Horford to fully recover from the painful condition that has seen him miss two of Boston’s last six games.

“He’s going to be out a little bit, but not too long,” Stevens said. “Just to strengthen him and get him feeling a lot better … make sure that he feels great instead of going in and out like this.”

The Celtics have three games in the next four days before a three-day break.

Horford, a five-time All-Star averaging 12.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists this season, said he wants to get the problem cleared up.

“This is something that I don’t think any of us wanted to linger or continue,” the Dominican said. “As much as I want to be on the floor, I do see the big picture. This is the time to do it.”
