Typhoon Rosita (Yutu) to be felt starting tonight; 5 areas under Signal #3

Eagle News) — Five areas in Northern Luzon are now under signal number 3, while at least 17 more provinces are under tropical cyclone warning signal (TCWS) number 2 as typhoon Yutu (Rosita) gains moves closer to Northern Luzon.

Yutu named Rosita when it entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility has weakened and has maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour from this morning’s maximum sustained winds of 170 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 210 kph.

The typhoon’s gusts as of 4 p.m. were recorded at 185 kph.

It is expected to make landfall over Southern Isabela – Northern Aurora area by Tuesday morning, Oct. 30, between 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. and traverse Aurora, Isabela, Quirino, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Benguet and La Union.

PAGASA said that Isabela, Quirino, Northern Aurora, Nueva Vizcaya and Ifugao are under storm signal number 3.

Those under signal number 2 are Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Ilocos Sur, Mountain Province, La Union, Benguet, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Northern Quezon including Polillo Island, Southern Aurora, Zambales, Pampanga and Bulacan.

Stormy weather is expected in these areas under signal numbers 3 and 2, PAGASA said.

Ten areas are under signal number 1, namely Southern Quezon, Batanes and Babuyan group of Islands, Rizal, Metro Manila, Laguna, Batangas, Bataan, Cavite and Camarines Norte.

Typhoon Yutu or Rosita is forecast to exit landmass by tomorrow afternoon, Tuesday, Oct. 30, and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Wednesday evening, Oct. 31.

PAGASA said “moderate to heavy rains directly associated with the Typhoon is expected over Northern and Central Luzon starting tonight (29 Oct).”

“Residents in these areas, especially those living near river channels, in low-lying areas and mountainous areas, are advised to take appropriate actions against possible flooding and landslides, coordinate with the local disaster risk reduction and management offices,” said PAGASA’s 5 p.m. website.

“Storm surge of up to 3 meters is possible over the coastal areas of Isabela, Cagayan, Aurora, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte and La Union,” it added.

As of 4 p.m., today, Monday, the eye of Typhoon “Yutu” or “Rosita” was located based on all available data at 310 km East Northeast of Casiguran, Aurora (16.8 °N, 125.0 °E ).

It has slowed down and is moving west at 15 kph, from this morning’s movement of 20 kph.
