(Eagle News) – Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque urged all government officials to follow the example of President Rodrigo Duterte, and not seek special treatment even in the airport screening process.
Roque’s pronouncements came amid the viral video of ACTS Party List Representative Aniceto “John” Bertiz III where he was seen ignoring security protocol at the airport, particularly his refusal to remove his shoes, even when an airport personnel reminded him to do this.
Bertiz, instead, was seen in the video being irked by the reminder and even appeared to castigate the airport personnel. The lawmaker also snatched the ID of the security personnel in the viral video, an action which drew him flak from various netizens.
Roque said that even President Duterte complies with all security protocols at the airport even though he is exempted from such screening process.
“He goes through X-ray machine and he does not ask for any special treatment,” Roque said in a press briefing on Monday, Oct. 1.
“Let’s learn by way of example from what the President is doing. Hindi po humihingi ng special treatment ang president,” he said.
“So if the President is like this, all officials of the land should follow this example,” Roque added.
The Palace spokesperson, however, said that Malacanang would wait for the results of the investigation of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) regarding the airport incident involving Bertiz before he would give his comment on the matter.
