Public Advisory: Classes suspended in Ilocos Norte today, October 19

LAOAG CITY, October 19 (PIA) Governor Imee R. Marcos declared suspension of classes in all levels on October 19 due to the anticipated onslaught of super typhoon Lawin.

Marcos has announced the cancellation of classes through the Communications and Media Office (CMO) on Tuesday night.
Jun Arvin Gudoy, CMO chief, posted said announcement in his personal and the province’s  official Facebook page for public information.
“Suspendido ang klase sa lahat ng antas sa buong Ilocos Norte bukas bilang paghahanda sa Bagyong Lawin, (Classes are suspended in all levels in Ilocos Norte tomorrow in preparation for Typhoon Lawin),” Gudoy said.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Resiliency Council (PDRRMRC) here has been closely monitoring the movement of “Lawin” which has been idetified on Wednesday as super typhoon.
Local disaster teams are also on alert and in close coordination with the community for advisories and information dissemination.
Marcos has also advised the farmers here to harvest remaining crops before the onslaught of the typhoon.

As of 5 a.m. on Wednesday, the state weather  bureau has raised Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 2 in 14 provinces in Luzon including Ilocos Norte.

Other provinces are: Cagayan including Calayan Group of Islands, Isabela, Northern Aurora, Ilocos Sur, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya and Qurino.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has advised the public and the local disaster teams to take appropriate actions and be prepared since the risk of Lawin is heavy to intense.

Super typhoon Lawin is expected to make landfall over Cagayan Area by tomorrow early morning (Oct. 20) then will cross Apayao and Ilocos Norte.

It is forecasted to possibly exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday evening or Friday early morning. (JNPD/CJDG/ PIA-1, Ilocos Norte)
