8,613 persons stay in 8 evacuation sites in Manila

MANILA, July 16 (PNA) — A total of 8,613 individuals are now temporarily staying in eight evacuation sites in the City of Manila in the aftermath of typhoon “Glenda”.

According to Johnny Yu, chief of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council of Manila, majority of the evacuees who are now staying in four proximate evacuation areas in Baseco Compound reached to more than 4,000 individuals.

There are also evacuation centers in Delpan Sports Complex and in the covered courts of Tondo and the Port Area.

Yu said that the Manileno evacuees were also provided with food in the evacuation centers.

He added that the City of Manila is usually undertaking a preemptive evacuation of its residents near the Manila Bay which is prone to flooding.

Yu said that although the evacuees can stay in the evacuation centers overnight, however, some of the evacuees have decided to go home after taking lunch Wednesday.

He added that some of the evacuees would not like to leave their houses, while the others cannot sleep well because of lack of beds and the noise.
