SACRAMENTO, CA (Eagle News) — What started in 2017 as a progression of voices from across the nation has grown into a powerful movement to uplift, encourage and move more individuals into action. Not only did the 2018 Women’s March of Sacramento fight for women’s rights but the march also stood for immigrant rights, voting rights, civic justice, and youth engagement. Women, along with entire families, of different age groups marched from Southside Park to the California State Capital.

During the event, rally speakers encouraged women to advocate for themselves and to start creating meaningful change for the community. Keynote speakers were also present, among them were Adama Iwu, a Senior Director of western U.S. government relations for Visa, Samantha Corbin, a CEO and founding partner of Corbin and Kaiser – a woman-owned government affairs and strategic development firm, Alicia Lewis, a Director of Programs and Outreach for We Said Enough and the founder of Lewis Public Affairs.

“It is time to know that regardless of gender, people can work hand-in-hand, to advance science for a better world,” said Reem Al Olaby, researcher from UC Davis as he spoke during the rally. “And as it was once said, together we can face challenges as deep as the ocean and as high as the sky.”
