Summer’s out and travelling for a vacation in a tropical summer resort or soaking up the sun on an exotic beach are not just your only summer vacation options. Let’s face the fact: it’s not always in the budget.

So if you can’t hit that tropical island you’ve been dreaming about this year, you can still enjoy a little paradise and relaxation in the comforts of your own home with this list of ‘staycation’ ideas for you, your family and friends.

  1. Throw and host a game night. Take out that board games you’ve been keeping in your attic for so long.  If you haven’t one, you can bust out the iPad for a techie entertainment, consider apps like 4 pics 1 word.
  2. Stargazing. If you are more in the lighted part of the city, you can definitely find yourself enjoying and learning at the same time together with your friends. You can invest in a good telescope or find a nice spot but first make sure to check out accuweather for stargazing weather.
  3. DIY with your siblings. For your summer to be productive and fun, DIY some wardrobe, accessories, and crafts with your siblings. On that lazy afternoon, bring out all your used clothes and try to recycle them for better output.
  4. Read a good book and try to finish it. Know what kind of genre you are into, find a good book in the nearest bookstore from your place. You can check up to Google and ask what the new best-seller books in the market are. Download an e-book of it and challenge yourself to finish that book a week.
  5. Summer Playlist. Get your work done and take time to update your tunes. Discover new artists and bands. Give other genres a chance to be heard by yourself, try to listen your friend’s playlist also.
  6. Summer Journal. It is nice to document your journeys all along your summer vacation. Take countless of pictures, print it out and write description out of it. This helps to improve your writing skills and promise yourself to be able to write every day.
  7. Learn how to bake. Learning a new skill is fun especially part of this, is being able to meet new people who has the same interests with you. Ask your parents to enroll you in a baking workshop or research some tutorials online and do it by yourself. When you finally got the idea, work for it and share it to people you love.
  8. Host a slumber party. Get yourself busy by organizing a simple slumber party. Call your friends before the day of your party for both sides to be ready.
  9. Summer workout. Doesn’t mean you have be fit for your summer swimsuit. Get fitspiration from your favorite celebrities who keep on sharing their workout body on their Instagram. Be active and healthy at gym or at your home. Try out a workout regimen this summer, eat healthy foods and set time when to workout.
  10. Outdoor movie night. You can create your own outdoor movie night by bringing your cinema to your backyard. Summer is the perfect time for a casual party and throwing a movie night outside your house with cracking popcorns and soda is hard to ignore.
