10 areas in N. Luzon under signal #2; Metro Manila, 20 other areas under signal #1 as typhoon nears

(Eagle News) – Ten areas in Northern Luzon were placed under tropical cyclone warning signal number 2 on Monday morning, Oct. 29, while 21 more areas in Luzon, including Metro Manila and Rizal, were placed under signal number 1 as typhoon Yutu (Rosita) moved closer to the Isabela-Aurora area.

Stormy weather is expected in the areas under signal number 2, namely Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Quirino, Polillo Island, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet and Nueva Vizcaya.

Those under cyclone warning signal number 1 are Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Apayao, Batanes, Babuyan Group of Islands, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Northern Quezon, Rizal, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Laguna, Batangas, Bataan, Zambales, Cavite and Camarines Norte.

Storm surge is possible over the coastal areas of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Cagayan, Isabela, and Aurora, according to the country’s weather bureau, PAGASA.

“Strong to very strong winds are expected to affect the eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon starting today (29 Oct.), while “moderate to heavy rains directly associated with the Typhoon will be experienced over Northern and Central Luzon” starting Monday evening, PAGASA’s latest update said.

“Residents in these areas, especially those living near river channels, in low-lying areas and in mountainous areas, are advised to take appropriate actions against possible flooding and landslides, coordinate with disaster risk reduction and management offices, and to continue monitoring for updates,” said its advisory.’

The typhoon is expected to make landfall over Isabela-Aurora area by Tuesday (30 Oct.) morning. Typhoon Yutu (Rosita) is expected to exit PAR by Wednesday (31 Oct.).

As of 7 a.m. today, the eye of Typhoon “Yutu” or Rosita was located based on all available data at 510 km East of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan or 475 km East Northeast of Casiguran, Aurora (17.1 °N, 126.5 °E )
It is moving West Southwest at 20 kph, with maximum sustained winds of 170 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 210 kph
