Yasay: Local black sand used by China for West PHL Sea reclamation

(Eagle News)– Foreign Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr. reported on Wednesday that the Black sand taken from Philippine territory is actually being used by China for reclamation activities in West Philippine Sea.

With a help from “intelligence reports”, the Department of Foreign affairs confirmed the proliferation of such mining activities.

“This has been discussed, and there is evidence to show black sand has been taken from our territories and used for reclamation activities, particularly in Spratly Islands,” Yasay said.
According to Yasay, another reclamation was attempted on Spratlys, but according to reports, was only stopped by Americans.
Yasay proposed to Senate a probe into the reclamation activities being done by China.
The Senate will start an investigation into Chinese mining and excavations in Zambales.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has already made an “unprecedented unified statement” about its concern in the territory fiasco.
