Watch: How parents of Ms PHL Catriona Gray reacted when she was announced Ms Universe 2018

 

 

(Eagle News) — In this viral video twitted by @MikeInCambodia, the reaction of the parents of Ms. Philippines’ Catriona Gray can be seen as they heard the name of their daughter being announced as Miss Universe 2018 in Thailand on Monday, December 17.

The one who posted the video, @MikeInCambodia, was sitting next to them at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand when this happened.

“I sat next to Catriona Gray’s parents, and this was their reaction when their daughter, Miss Philippines, won Miss Universe,” @MikeInCambodia said in his twitter post.

Catriona Gray’s father, Ian Gray, a Scottish-born Australian, can be seen standing up while holding what appeared to be a rolled-up Philippine flag, absolutely happy after her daughter’s name was called, and is congratulated by all those around him, while Catriona’s mother, Normita Ragas Magnayon, was also almost in tears of joy after the announcement. She later stood up assisted by her husband, and they hugged each other as they cherished their daughter’s victory.

In the video, @MikeInCambodia can even be heard shouting, “I told you, it’s Mr Gray’s daughter!”

The new Ms Universe also retweeted the post.

@MikeInCambodia added in another tweet: “Your parents are absolutely lovely!!! So glad I captured this moment for all of you.”

Because of his post, so many Filipinos tweeted how they were grateful to him for capturing the moment in video.

One of those who commented on the video, Sugar_Tropang Wanted, said: I literally cried 😭 this is so amazing! Thank you for this ❤🇵🇭

Another said, “This is the type of clip you dont see in events like Miss Universe. Thank you for sharing this with us. Mabuhay!”

The video had already gained 1.1 million views, more than 134,000 likes and more than 4,440 retweets as of posting time.

Because of the overwhelming reaction from the Filipino community all over the world that @MikeInCambodia got for his post, he said in another tweet how the Filipino people had shown him so much love that day.

“Man, the Filipino people have shown me so much love today. Your love and respect is humbly and gracefully received. Thank you, and congratulations on your new Miss Universe!!” he said.

@MikeInCambodia said he was originally from Louisiana, and that he has been an English teacher in Asia since 2007.
