Misery continues for the University of Sto. Tomas Growling Tigers as the Ateneo Blue Eagles pounded them with a 94-84 win at the Araneta Coliseum.

Matt Nieto led the Blue Eagles with 22 points, while Thirdy Ravena went all around with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists.

Ateneo seemed headed to a blowout win after erecting a 22-point lead in the 3rd quarter.

But the Growling Tigers staged a big rally, cutting the lead down to a single point during the 4th quarter.

But the Blue Eagles answered with a 13-3 run and did not allow a single field goal in the last 5 minutes of the ballgame, enabling them to repel the UST comeback and hold on for the win.

Rookie Marvin Lee led the UST Growling Tigers with 22 points.

Jordan Sta. Ana meanwhile added 21.

With the win, Ateneo remains on top of the standings with a 5-0 card while the suffering continues for  UST, still winless at 0-5.

UST’s next game will be against the defending champions De La Salle Green Archers, who are coming off a surprise loss against the on-the-rise UP Fighting Maroons.

Ateneo meanwhile will try to extend its unbeaten run against the National University Bulldogs.

Both games will be played on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum.
