Two senators lash out at mayors who were allegedly missing in action at the height of “Ompong”

(Eagle News) — Two senators slammed ten mayors who were reported to have been missing in action at the height of Typhoon “Ompong” in their areas of jurisdiction.

“Bakit nandito sila sa Maynila habang ‘yung kanilang mga lalawigan at munisipyo ay dinaraanan ng bagyo?” Senator Franklin Drilon said.

According to Drilon, this was tantamount to “gross neglect and should be investigated.”

Senator Panfilo Lacson agreed.

“Negligence or parang similar to being insensitive. Kasi araw-araw nakakarinig tayo ng kalatas sa (Department of Science and Technology), sinasabi ito ang bagyo malakas tapos aalis ka sa bayan mo?” Lacson said.

According to Lacson, this was “not justified unless talagang life and death situation kaya siya nawala sa kanyang bayan..”

“Dapat talaga papanagutin ang mayor na wala sa kanyang lugar noong nangyari ang bagyo,” he said.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government has said the ten mayors, whom it did not name, were already under probe.
