Taguba camp says a gov’t official wants him dead; asks court to reconsider its decision on his detention in Manila City Jail

(Eagle News) — Citing threats to his life, Mark Taguba, one of the personalities charged in connection with the P6.4-billion shabu shipment mess, on Monday asked the court to reconsider its decision to have him detained at the Manila City Jail.

In a very urgent motion for reconsideration filed before Branch 46 of the Manila Regional Trial Court, Taguba, through his lawyer, asked that he be  given detention in the National Bureau of Investigation detention facility, Camp Crame or the Senate instead as a government official wanted him to be transferred to the Manila City Jail  so he could be “liquidat(ed).”

The information, Taguba’s lawyer said, was given to him by Taguba’s father, Ruben, on Sunday night.

According to Taguba’s motion, only “a small amount of money” was needed for “”anyone of the hundreds of prisoners detained at the city jail to have (him) killed.”

“It must be admitted that with the number of prisoners in the Manila City Jail, the prison guards cannot ensure the safety of each and every one of the prisoners detained there,” the motion added.

Only last week, the court ordered that Taguba be detained in the Manila City Jail, noting that he failed to prove his claims that there were threats to his life.

Taguba is one of nine personalities facing a drug importation case in connection with the P6.4-billion shabu shipment that entered the country via Customs express lanes in May.
