Sandiganbayan defers Napoles’ transfer to Correctional Institution for Women

(Eagle News) — The Sandiganbayan has deferred alleged pork barrel scam queen Janet Lim Napoles’ transfer to the Correctional Institution for Women pending resolution of her appeal for her to remain detained in Camp Bagong Diwa.

The anti-graft court instead ordered the  Office of the Special Prosecutor to comment on the appeal of Napoles, who had cited security reasons in arguing against her transfer to the CIW after her conviction for plunder.

The anti-graft court on Friday, Dec. 7,  sentenced Napoles and Richard Cambe, former Senator Bong Revilla’s chief of staff, to reclusion perpetua for the alleged misuse of Revilla’s  pork barrel funds through Napoles’ fake organizations.

Revilla, however, who was accused of receiving kickbacks worth P224.5 million, was acquitted for the prosecution’s failure to prove he was guilty beyond reasonable doubt.

The Sandiganbayan gave prosecutors ten days from notice to submit their comment, after which Napoles’ appeal will be deemed submitted for resolution unless a court hearing is required.
