(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday, Sept. 6, said he was willing to send “battalions” to Jordan to help the kingdom ward off ISIS fighters who have been trying to enter the country.

“If there is anything that we can do, if you are short of your army, let me know. You need one battalion? Two, three, four, five? I’ll send them to you,” the President said in a speech before businessmen.

Jordan shares borders with Iraq and Syria, and at times finds itself fending off ISIS fighters.

Duterte said he would “commit my government in the right side of history,” as he blasted again the “to destroy and kill” ideology of ISIS.

In May 2017, local terrorists who pledged allegiance to ISIS overran Marawi.

Government troops engaged the terrorists in a five-month-long gunbattle, while President Duterte declared martial law in Mindanao.

Martial law in Mindanao will lapse in December this year.
